Elect new district leaders.
Fix Brooklyn’s Democratic Party.

In the 2022 midterms, Brooklyn Democrats lost seats because our local party stayed on the sidelinesWe can’t afford another election like this. We need district leaders who will build a party that can mobilize volunteers and support Democrats in tight races.

We are thrilled that our movement grew in 2024 — scroll down to learn more. You can help us continue to grow and build a more transparent, accountable, and effective local party  — make a donation if you can, and reach out if you know someone who’d make a great district leader.

Grassroots Candidates Achieve Historic Wins in Brooklyn District Leader Elections

JUNE 2024

The Brooklyn Can't Wait coalition won five competitive district leader elections this year, bringing our total number of endorsed District Leaders for the 2024-2026 term to 14. This marks an important shift in the borough's political landscape, showing growing support for leadership that will make the Party more more transparent, accountable, and effective.

Brooklyn Can’t Wait endorsed candidates won despite unprecedented spending of more than $40,000 by the Brooklyn Democratic Party on behalf of the Party Chair’s favored candidates, as reported in Hell Gate. This spending was done without an endorsement process by the full party leadership, and marks the first time the Party has spent in campaigns – including general elections – since 2021. This is not how our Party should be spending campaign funds.

Despite this, Brooklyn Can’t Wait endorsed District Leaders won in Assembly District 52, 46, and 50. Lydia Green won decisively in Assembly District 52 (Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, some of Park Slope), despite the Brooklyn Dems’ support for challenger Sabrina Gates. In Assembly District 46 (Coney Island, Bay Ridge), Angela Kravchenko and Chris McCreight outpaced Dionne Brown-Jordan and Billy Zeoli by nearly 30 percentage points.

In Assembly District 50 (Greenpoint, Williamsburg), Assembly Member Emily Gallagher and district leader candidates Jenna Bimbi and Luke Ohlsen achieved resounding victories, each garnering more than double the votes of their opponents, who had the backing of the Brooklyn Democratic Party and party donors Broadway Stages.

We are incredibly proud of everyone who ran on platforms committed to their communities and a better party for Brooklyn. These victories signal voters’ desire for community-oriented leadership ready to make the party work for all Brooklyn Democrats – not just party insiders.
